On Tuesday, September 23rd, the Southern Gospel Music Association (SGMA) inducted our very own Duane Allen into their Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for individuals who have had a significant impact on the southern gospel music industry. Duane attended the induction celebration, held during the National Quartet Convention, joined by family and friends.
Prior to joining The Oak Ridge Boys, Duane worked as a gospel music DJ and promoter before joining the Prophets Quartet. Since 1966, Duane helped propel the Oaks to the heights of gospel music popularity as both lead singer and producer for the group. He also co-authored “The History of Gospel Music” in the early 1970’s. Even when the group pivoted to country music superstardom, they continued to feature gospel music both on record and in concerts. Today, Duane continues to champion gospel music, encouraging and supporting new and established artists within the industry, including appearing on a recent live project with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.
You can read more about Duane’s induction and his thoughts on receiving this honor in this interview with John Herndon.
Congrats, Duane!
